The math institute server
The main math department server math.huji.ac.il is Scientific Linux 4 machine (1400MHz CPUx2, 2Gb mem)

The main services work through this server, e.g.:

To connect to math.huji.ac.il, you no longer use telnet, use only Security Shell (ssh) since telnet is closed on it.
SSH Client for PC - Download

The Solaris Server sundial.ma.huji.ac.il will continue to work as before. It is a Sun Fire V250 2x1.28GHz Ultra SPARC computer, with 2000Mb of RAM. It runs under the operating system Solaris 9, a variant of UNIX.

HU WebMail: email through a browser from any computer/network

Laptop Internet Access
Two Internet access routes for laptops are available in the library: Other Computer resources in the library

HUJI e-mail accounts
As of the 2007/8 academic year e-mail accounts with HUJI addresses, username@mail.huji.ac.il, were opened in GMAIL for all students registered at the university.

  2. How to display PDF files - Use Adobe Acrobat Reader.
    Click here to download Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5.0 for Windows 95/98/NT. Save to disk, and then double-click on ar500enu.exe to install it.
  3. LaTeX2e - our main mathematical typesetting environment.
  4. Mathematica - a symbolic algebra/graphics/mathematical programming package. A brief summary of the mathematica commands is available by typing "mathbook" on an X-terminal.
  5. vi - a simple text editor. A manual is here.
  6. StarOffice - instructions for using StarOffice on sundial
  7. netscape - instructions for java with netscape-4 .75
  8. techexplorer - instructions for using techexplorer
  9. LyX - instructions for using LyX

Hebrew University's academic staff can obtain licenses of scientific software, such as: Mathematica, Matlab and SPSS from the Hebrew University's Authority for Computation, Communication and Information MicroShop.
