"Spectral methods in automorphic forms"

Abstract: The use of representation theory in automorphic forms goes back to Mordell (1917), continues with Hecke (30s-40s) and culminates with Langlands who formulated in the late 60's far reaching conjectures about automorphic forms and their L-functions. I will try to review the basic questions and conjectures people are interested in, some of the methods of attack, and some recent developments.

Light refreshments will be served in the faculty lounge at 3:30.
