"Multi-dimensional entropy and the monomer-dimer problem"

Abstract: In the first part of the talk we will define and discuss the concept of multi-dimensional entropy, sometimes called the Shannon capacity, and bring examples from statistical mechanics and information theory.

In the second part of the talk we will discuss some theoretical and computational aspects of the classical monomer-dimer problem.

Light refreshments will be served in the faculty lounge at 3:30.
