"From Hamilton-Jacobi to Navier-Stokes (and back)"

Abstract: The Navier-Stokes Equations govern many of the flow phenomena encountered in daily life. Two hundred years of work have left many open problems, even mysteries. We'll discuss some modern approaches and present numerical results as well. Without assuming any background, we'll put the mathematical treatment in light of a certain class of Hamilton-Jacobi equations.

Light refreshments will be served in the faculty lounge at 3:30.
